The Gawad Kabataang Dunant Ten Outstanding Red Cross Youth Leaders

There was much enthusiasm and passion from Red Cross Youth volunteers who gathered last month at Our Lady of Fatima University, Quezon City campus, for the third annual Gawad Kabataang Dunant Outstanding Youth Humanitarian Leaders awarding ceremony.

The award was named after Jean Henri Dunant, founder of the Red Cross and the first recipient of the Nobel Peace Prize.

Feted were Red Cross Youth volunteers Lilibeth Cabulang, Hanna Praise Calacar, Marc Tristan Lo, Mark Anthony Galono, Norine Jae Arambulo, Kristina Marquez, Eloisa Ortiz, Tyrene Jade Pe, Bryan Rolly Maliwat, and this writer.

Awards were also given to Miko Rey Opinion, Alice Angela Canta and Ayessa Estonactor—Red Cross Youth leaders from the elementary level.

Red Cross Youth advisers Jacquelyn Ong, Princess Nazarita, Olivia Farin, Perlina Almase, Cherry Arandia, Marites Ramos and Elpedio Adigue were likewise honored for their unwavering volunteerism and solid leadership.

Various Red Cross Youth Councils were recognized for their commitment in the areas of fund generation, leadership, Red Cross 143, volunteer service, Junior First Aiders program, health service, Pledge 25 and accreditation.

Lifetime Achievement Awards were presented to two longtime Red Cross Youth volunteers-turned-chapter youth council advisers, Fernando Delgra Jr., and Siegmark Clavecilla.

Special guests at the awarding ceremony were Victoria Coralejo, Youth Committee chair of the Philippine Red Cross-Quezon City Chapter. In her speech, she discussed the essence of Red Cross Youth volunteerism: finding happiness and pleasure in serving others.

Also gracing the event were Philippine Red Cross-Quezon City Chapter administrator Amparo Perez and Chapter Youth Council president Ralph Rolly Maliwat.
